Only when we understand how to relate as humans, can teams succeed
It’s normal for the dynamic of a team to change – even the best-performing teams can experience both periods of disharmony and periods of total cohesion. After all, we’re humans whose own emotions and reactions change from day to day.
Unfortunately, when friction between teams and team members starts getting in the way of the team being effective and productive, it can have a detrimental effect on members’ work, mental health and job satisfaction.
The Team Dynamics program offers a solution by providing participants with an understanding of the processes underlying unhelpful team dynamics and showing them how to prevent and address these issues by focusing on human interaction.
Who this program is for
This program is aimed at teams and their leader or manager who are struggling to work harmoniously together.
This is also a useful program for newly formed teams or teams who have experienced significant change such as a restructuring or downsizing program.
What to expect on this program
Based on studies of the major contributing factors of team breakdowns, this program explores competencies and skills in six key areas of human-to-human interactions:
- Commitment communication: When under pressure, friction can occur when people don’t follow through on commitments or fail to communicate when they are likely to miss a deadline. This module covers how to obtain clear agreements with accountability, how to make a complaint constructively when commitments are being broken, and how to repair trust when commitments are broken.
- Unconditional response-ability: Issues can arise when team members blame variables they do not control for errors, poor results or missed deadlines. We address this victim mentality, offer ways to empower people in situations they previously felt they couldn’t control and look at how to constructively address situations where someone has passed the blame.
- Constructive criticism: Negative feedback is both tough to give and to receive. We practice ways to relay even the most negative message in a positive light.
- Difficult conversations: Awkward topics often go unspoken, but this usually means that the situation gets worse. We explore how to skillfully address difficult issues that become “un-discussable” in an organisation and conduct blameless discussions so we can learn from mistakes without stifling creativity.
- Essential integrity: We explore how to align our actions and words with our values, even in difficult situations. When our ethics and morals are called into play, the process, not just the outcome is important.
- Working under opposing viewpoints: Having different perspectives can be beneficial for teams if they know how to work with them. We look at how to communicate constructively when opposing viewpoints are in play by differentiating between opinions and facts, and allowing them to coexist for the purpose of learning. We also discover how to realign with a common value.
