Leading & Collaborating Remotely

How to work powerfully with colleagues and clients in a virtual workspace

The right mindset and tools to beat the barriers of collaborating remotely

In an environment where it’s become the norm to work virtually (at least to some extent), knowing how to lead, collaborate and communicate effectively has become vital to the success of teams, projects and even entire organisations.

This involves more than having the right technology and a Wi-Fi connection. Both leaders and team members need the right mindset, organisation systems and communication skills to ensure both projects – and morale – stay on track.

The Leading and Collaborating Remotely program gives participants tools and techniques that will help them, and their teams, thrive when their work and connections are all online. This program is an opportunity for leaders to take themselves beyond their current capacity to become the leader they want to be in our digital world.

Who this program is for

The Leading & Collaborating Remotely program is designed for people who manage all or part of their team at a distance, regardless of their level of experience or prior training.

It’s particularly useful for leaders in organisations that have moved the bulk of their work online and who are responsible for multiple, possibly geographically dispersed, virtual teams.

What to expect on this program

Leading and Collaborating Remotely (also known as Leading Distributed Teams or LDT) is a facilitated three-month learning journey that equips participants with tools and techniques that support how leaders manage and collaborate with their virtual teams.

The program is a blended learning solution combining facilitated digital learning and virtual group sessions.

The digital workouts encourage reflection and provide participants with tools and insights that set them up for on-the-job actions. The virtual sessions, which include coaching by the TNM program facilitator, encourage peer learning and knowledge sharing.

Learning outcomes

After completing the program, participants can lead and collaborate remotely, confident in their capacity to:

  • understand and harness the right mindset for remote work.
  • build a strong team spirit in geographically separated teams.
  • establish a compelling vision that aligns and engages each team member.
  • apply rigour in planning, priority setting and organisation.
  • manage people’s performance and establish clear work contracts.
  • develop a supportive peer network.
  • show awareness of the need to provide leadership at an elevated level with distributed teams.
  • identify what works well and tailor best practices to different situations.
  • engage teams to focus on lifting teamwork and collaboration.
  • build a habit of deliberate practice and reflection in order to continue to improve over time.

How participants learn

This program uses a blended learning approach, combining virtual sessions and digital learning workouts.

The digital learning experience offers interactive and thought-provoking content. As participants move through each workout, they can share ideas and insights with their peers, save resources to their journals to reflect on throughout the journey and get coaching and support from the facilitator and colleagues.

The program is delivered in the following format:

  • 3 x modules of digital learning on the mobile or web app
  • 3 x 90-minute virtual group coaching calls

It’s a ‘learning by doing’ style of program that requires participants to take real actions at work to grow their skills and capacity.  Therefore, each module has the following phases:

  • Module pre-work, videos and exercises – teaching new ideas and real-world actions
  • Online Group Session – discussion and sharing insights
  • Experiments in the real world – completing self-selected actions

Participants will benefit from

  • Fun, relaxed and interactive sessions that go beyond standard professional development programs
  • Highly experienced coaches with decades of leadership and coaching experience
  • Social learning and support from other participants
  • Learning that fits within a tailored development program
  • A holistic approach that develops their mind, soul and spirit
