How to take control over your health and how to become your own healer by Natalie Munk

Taking control of your health is an ongoing process.

In this episode, we explore how to take control over your health and how to become your own healer.

Taking control over your health is essential for leading a fulfilling and healthy life. It involves making conscious choices and adopting behaviours that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  1. Self-awareness: Start by assessing your current health status and identifying areas that need improvement. Understand your family’s medical history and genetic predispositions. Reflect on your lifestyle choices and habits, including diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management.
  2. Set Clear Goals: Establish specific, measurable, and achievable health goals. For example, you might aim to lose a certain amount of weight, lower your cholesterol, or manage stress better. Break these goals down into smaller, manageable steps to track your progress.
  3. Nutrition: Adopt a balanced and nutritious diet. Focus on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats. Practice portion control to avoid overeating and monitor your calorie intake if necessary. Limit or avoid processed foods, sugary snacks, and excessive caffeine and alcohol.
  4. Exercise: Incorporate regular physical activity into your routine. Find activities you enjoy, whether it’s walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, or dancing. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week, along with strength training exercises.
  5. Sleep: Prioritize sleep by establishing a regular sleep schedule and creating a comfortable sleep environment. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night.
  6. Stress Management: Practice stress-reduction techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, yoga, or mindfulness. Find healthy outlets for stress, like engaging in hobbies or spending time in nature.
  7. Build a Support Network: Share your health goals with friends and family who can provide encouragement and accountability. Consider joining support groups or online communities related to your health goals.

Remember that taking control of your health is an ongoing process. It requires commitment, patience, and adaptability. It’s essential to consult with healthcare professionals for personalized guidance and advice based on your specific health needs and goals.

Natalie experiences and crisis points have taught her that what we all so easily refer to as ‘health’ is actually a delicately inter-connected state of the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional. When we are ill, low, have lost direction or feel stuck, we often find that standard medicine doesn’t have all the answers. It is Natalie’s belief that it is only by treating the whole person that true health and ‘wholeness’ can be obtained.
