You & AI Series

How to work and lead impactfully alongside Artificial Intelligence

Adapting to an AI-enabled business model requires curiosity and reflection

AI is everywhere. It’s not that big, scary thing in the future. AI is here with us.
Fei-Fei Li

With the rise of software using Large Language Models like ChatGPT, AI has burst into our consciousness, changing the way we do our jobs and run businesses in a range of industries.

Economists call AI a ‘general-purpose technology’ because it is, and will be, involved in everything. This kind of technology is causing major disruption through its direct application in business and society and in the way it is enabling a vast range of complementary innovations.

TNM’s You and AI series of programs – AI and the Business Environment and AI and Decision Making – examines the implications of AI for leaders and individuals at work to help them better navigate and adapt to the changes that this technology will bring to their professional and personal lives. By embedding a mindset of curiosity and continual reflection, leaders will feel confident exploring the vast possibilities that this technology holds for their organisation.

Who this program is for

You & AI is for leaders and individuals who either work in an organisation which is using or being impacted by AI technology, or who have an interest in it and wish to explore the topic in the context of their business environment.

What to expect on this program

Curiosity is one of the key qualities of individual adaptability and transformational leadership. You & AI fires up leaders’ innate curiosity by asking them to observe and understand what is going on in the world as a result of AI, explore how things are changing and what the differences will be.

Through an enriching and reflective series of experiences, leaders will ask, and attempt to answer, thought-provoking questions including:

  • How is AI changing the way we live and work?
  • How is it changing our business and social environment?
  • What are the big new dilemmas that AI brings?
  • How does it change our decision-making processes?
  • What kind of leaders do we need to become to manage this well?
  • How do we develop our businesses towards a sustainable future?
  • What are the benefits and what are the costs?
  • Why should I change my approach to an AI world?

You and AI is delivered as a series of two programs:

AI & Decision Making
This first program of the series puts humans at the centre of the challenge and focuses on how AI is changing our business environment. Starting with how our brains work as human beings, we move on to the meaning of intelligence and then more specifically AI to understand what it is, how it’s applied and its broader impacts.

Topics covered:

  • Human evolution: What can humans do? What are we capable of?
  • Artificial Intelligence: What is it and how is it applied? What can we foresee in terms of future developments?
  • Complexity: Why is the world becoming more and more complex and what role does technology, and particularly AI, play in it?
  • Impact: How can I make sense of this external change? What impact does it have on our society, our organisations and on me?

AI & The Business Environment
The second program of the series aims to raise awareness and deepen participants’ understanding of how decision-making works, with human beings on one side and AI on the other side.  Participants explore fields where we are already delegating decisions to AI and reflect on where we could leverage AI more, and where we should be mindful of AI’s assistance.

This program helps individuals and leaders to make sense of the complexities of decision-making in an uncertain world so that they can make wiser human decisions at the individual, organisation and societal levels while leveraging the capabilities of AI.

Topics covered:

  • Introduction: What is AI and how can it support decision-making in a complex environment?
  • The mystery of human decision-making: What is the nature of will and decision-making? How do we make decisions as individuals and within a system?
  • The mystery of AI decision-making: How does AI learn? How is AI making decisions? How do we know what is being included and excluded in the AI decision-making process?
  • Human-machine collaboration: Which decisions are we already delegating to AI? Where could we and our businesses benefit from a collaborative human-AI decision-making process?
  • Impact: How can I make sense of this external change? What impact does it have on our society, our organisations and on me?

Learning outcomes

Each You & AI program gives participants the opportunity to learn and practice a visionary and transformational leadership mindset, improve responsiveness to external changes and develop flexibility in the face of change.

The programs are based on the exchange of ideas and the sharing of knowledge which mobilise and exploit individual and group experiences to produce deep insights and long-term perspectives.

The whole reflective journey stimulates participants to ask new questions and to use and practice their capacity to think critically and to make sense of what surrounds them.

Ultimately, this program is designed to equip leaders and individuals with an inquisitive mindset and a new perspective on how AI will impact their business, leaving them:

  • curious to learn more about, and work with, AI;
  • inspired to investigate AI from different viewpoints;
  • able to understand the implications of AI at a societal, organisational and individual level; and
  • able to leverage both AI and human capabilities in the decision-making process.

How participants learn

Both You & AI programs follow a similar blended learning format of virtual workshops and self-guided learning on the digital platform.

  • Virtual learning: the virtual sessions add the value of discussion, leveraging collective intelligence and deepening our understanding through coaching and the facilitation of collective sense-making.
  • Digital learning: through a digital platform, participants will have access to a specially curated body of knowledge and interactive exercises to help them understand AI and its impact. Participants will have the opportunity to explore AI and their relationship to it, reflect and share with their peers in the online platform and be supported throughout by live professional facilitation.

Program format:
This program is delivered over two to three months via three live virtual workshops and four digital self-organised learning (flip learning) modules in the following order:
