High Impact Coaching is a new management and leadership program that teaches coaching as an advanced leadership skill.
This 4 day course lays the groundwork for a 3 part Action Learning Program. It's a hands-and-minds-on introduction to advanced coaching in the workplace. The focus is to teach participants how to be a coach and how to do coaching. Participants will be introduced to the essential skills of coaching, and the objective of the course is to understand and start using core coaching competencies to shift to an advanced level of communication and enhanced leadership (including personal leadership).
Leaders who have advanced coaching skills understand and can tap in to intrinsic motivation and empower people to take responsibility for their own performance. This is a highly interactive, experiential workshop during which participants discover how easy it is to use coaching to take themselves, those they lead, and their organization to breakthrough results.
High Impact Coaching uses the Action Learning Group (ALG) format in follow up sessions. An ALG is a group of peers who develop themselves and each other by using each other's experience and knowledge to deal with the similar situations and issues that they encounter. Members learn with and from each other, through real-time application and practice of the skills they are developing, so that the learning process itself becomes a group project and each member takes responsibility for the results and outcomes of their own learning process.
The same method of insight-based learning is used in professional coach training and in the coaching process itself. Coaching is about knowledge/awareness, practice/application and review, which is how this teaching approach creates high impact learning.
Key competencies and skills:
- Core Coaching Competencies: This part of course covers essential coaching competencies to create a high standard of professional coaching within the organization. It includes Setting Foundations, Co-creating the Relationship, Communicate Effectively and Facilitating Learning Results.
- Advanced Coaching Competencies: Participants develop skills and competencies that build on the Foundational Coaching. Skills learned in the Coaching for Performance course. These include: Advanced Listening, Discovery Questioning, Gap Bridging, Advising, Messaging, Challenging, Outrageous Requesting, Empowering, Truth Saying and Celebrating What Is.
- Self-Awareness: This part of course covers coaching beliefs, coaching perception and perspective, coaching attitudes and limiting beliefs. We also cover the role of the body and levels of intelligence in coaching (IQ, EQ, SQ).
- Group Coaching Skills and Behaviours: This covers the more expansive set of skills that is required for group coaching as opposed to one-on-one coaching, including: Group Rapport, Greater Presence, Group Leadership and Group Coaching Process Management.
- Coaching Playground: Experiencing and practicing coaching using real life business cases.
- Sustainability of Coaching: Essential practices for living and integrating coaching in real business life.
Key learning outcomes
As a key learning outcome participants will begin using coaching skills in their daily work life and shift to an advanced level of communication. They will learn essential and advanced coaching skills and attitudes, focusing on the “who” (person), instead of the “what” (situation), and shift to the position of an advanced communicator who is fully focused on relationship building. Participants will be trained, coached and challenged to demonstrate a proven ability to coach virtually any situation from creative leadership, real teamwork, building a high performance team, truly dynamic communications and attitude to problems, to managing conflict and creating breakthrough business results.
An effective group size for this program is 8 to 12 participants. A training room suitable for 12 people (plus trainer) and sufficient extra space for real plays and exercises. Ideally, there should be informal break out spaces for up to three groups. A minimum of 2 flipcharts, writing materials, projector and monitor to show video real plays.
