They will learn and practice foundational individual and team-coaching skills, tools and techniques, discover their personal communication and coaching style, deepen their understanding of team development processes and dynamics, and learn to design and facilitate critical team coaching conversations.

They will expand their managerial and leadership toolbox and get excited to challenge the boundaries of what they believe is possible in increasinig their teams effectivness through collaboration.

By the end of this program participans will:

  • Understand their role of a manager as a coach, and the importance of developing coaching skills as an essential part of their leadership toolbox.
  • Learn foundational coaching principles and skills and practice employing them in their everyday environment.
  • Understand how individual and team coaching are connected, and how are they different.
  • Gain foundational understanding of the four stages of team development and team behaviors essential for successful collaborative results.
  • Learn to recognize the distinct needs of their team in each stage, and recognize the importance of adapting their leadership and coaching style accordingly.
  • Implement specific techniuqes for creating a shared team identity and purpose.
  • Learn to design a long term team coaching process built around team contracting and agreements.
  • Practice facilitating challenging team conversations.

Program framework and methodology

Experiential, affirmative, interactive, business relevant

Balance of content focused on:

  • Theoretical, conceptual knowledge; and
  • Practical application rooted in the organizational values and specific business reality of your organization.

Methodology:

  • Trainer-led facilitation grounded in team coaching and training principles.
  • Interactive exercises and discussion.
  • Exercises designed to create experience relevant to particular workplace context that triggers curiosity, self-awareness and readiness to experiment and explore.
  • Mentor support available by short email for up to 1 month upon program completion.

Workshop Logistics - general requirements

  • Large room (for 25 participants ideally 50-70m2) that allows simultaneous set up of two different seating configurations - circle & café set-up for break-out groups.
  • Flip-charts with pens (ideally 4 flip-charts with a 4-colour set of pens, at least 20 pages of paper on every flip-chart).
  • Large clear wall-space (or huge whiteboard) as vision board (that allows sticking, arranging and re-arranging working sheets as we progress through our process.
  • Computer projector with projection screen and audio speakers.
  • Lots of light, water, fruits … occasionally a coffee, and a lunch are most welcomed.

DAY 1
Coaching Foundations
(The what, why and the how of wearing a coaching hat)

  • Setting the scene - Introduction and warming up
  • What the most memorable leaders do differently
  • The 3 hats of a manager and why coaching matters
  • What is coaching and what is NOT coaching
  • HOW to Coach – a step by step guide for an effective coaching conversation
  • The key skills triangle: Clarifying – Exploring – Discovering
  • Three Levels of Listening and how to listen at all three levels
  • Listening so you know what powerful questions to ask and reflections to share
  • Evening assignement (fun practice to ensure your learning sticks)

DAY 2
Teams and Performance
(The essential guide to Team Dynamics and Effectiveness Through Collaboration)

  • Discovering the difference between Individual Achievement versus Team Achievement
  • The Magic of Teams and WHO can we become when we work together
  • Essentials of Team dynamics and assessing the development of your team
  • Knowing your role – how is being a Team Coach different from being a Leader
  • The team coaching process – key steps and a few guidelines
  • Backwards goals setting – starting with the future in mind
  • Coaching to ensure accountability
  • AND ... once more – an evening assignement (stay curious ... practice and have fun)

DAY 3
The Team Coaching Toolbox

  • Using the 4 Dominant Styles of Communication to share strengths and needs
  • Creating a shared identity and purpose
  • Creating team agreements and process goals
  • Coaching through conflicts and setbacks
  • Using celebration as inspiration

Wrapping up: Reflection, commitments, empowering each other to implement the learning.
