Leading Change Face-to-Face

The program for groups who are either experiencing, or about to move into, a period of change.

CHANGE TODAY: Internal, external and fast-paced

Change happens, it’s a fact of life. And so is the uncertainty that goes with it. The only thing that’s certain in today’s ‘New Economy’ is that the pace of change itself is increasing. The usual timeline for catching up on new trends has collapsed and the need to innovate the way forward has never been more acute. The rate of change is exponential and unprecedented for long-term employees. Leaders in industry today are largely unprepared for this, and even the better prepared have received only minimal training in how to communicate and facilitate change in an effective and sustainable way.

Given this backdrop it is essential that an organization develops a Change Competence that becomes part of its DNA. In order to achieve this it is essential that everybody has an understanding of how change works, both from a process perspective and from a human perspective.

Change happens and never more so than now. The proposed program looks behind the mechanics of change and addresses the underlying challenge to leaders as individuals who must first understand and accept the purpose and potential of change themselves, in order to be effective at communicating and facilitating the processes and managing the impact.

It is important to take beliefs and emotions into account when resolving difficulties and developing strong relationships in times of change because, when our emotions are triggered, the quest for logic is lost. Everybody experiences some level of fear, grief or anger when they are called on to make changes they didn’t expect. If this is taken into account when managing the change process, there is a far better chance that the desired changes will be accepted and implemented, more quickly and easily.

This approach is informed by the latest theory on change management and our own considerable experience in developing and delivering successful learning solutions in the field.

In terms of organizational objectives, the program goes beyond the primary aim of achieving buy-in to existing or future change efforts. It frames the need to change not as a sign of the times or a finite process that must be endured, but as a way of life that’s here to stay. It invites leaders to become comfortable with this concept, and shift their focus from damage limitation and managing expectations, to engaging with the potential and identifying opportunities for innovation.

The program was developed around a 5-step model of change that can be institutionalized throughout the organization and is appropriate for groups who are either experiencing, or about to move into, a period of change, as well as those who are likely to be called on to facilitate change at some point in the future.

Specifically, the Mastering Change program will enable leaders to:

  • Understand how beliefs, expectations and emotions can inhibit or enhance an individual’s willingness and ability to accept change.
  • Recognize the difference between responding and reacting to change.
  • Identify the emotional triggers of others in order to coach them more effectively around change.
  • Improve communication and engagement by channeling the internal/emotional drive of those they lead toward purposeful creativity.

Leading Change workshops are led from a coaching perspective; fully interactive and full of rich and powerful questions. Participants enjoy the experience and retain far more when led through inquiry. With traditional training the power is with the trainer; with TNM the power is with the participants and the inquiry is crafted in the moment from their participation.
